I live breathe work #bringthekids. But sometimes, you just gotta #leavethekids. This trip was just myself and my husband = bliss. We had to be in Brazil for his work, so that dictated the location. I took the opportunity to join him, as I have heard great things about Sao Paolo, but never had extended time to explore it as a destination in itself, not just as transit to more far-flung locales like Bahia or Warung.
Where to Stay in Sao Paolo
We were hosted at the Fasano, which was a fantastic base for discovering the city. It’s very walkable, and children would be made to feel welcome (if you were traveling with the kids) with luxurious amenities just for them.
Where to Go in Sao Paolo
Sao Paolo is a melting pot of so many races: Japan, Syria, Lebanon, and Haiti, and it’s a formidable center of culture with its numerous museums and significant architectural achievements. Our best day was spent walking through the Ibirapuera Park, and then wandering through the various museums that the park housed. That’s my idea of a perfect day.
Where to Eat in Sao Paolo
My husband loves to sniff out the best most interesting restaurant, so we ended up in downtown having a tasting menu lunch (when does that happen with kids in tow?) at Casa do Porc (you guessed it, all they serve is pork). I had my hesitations but it was creatively and cleverly presented and delicious all the way around.
What to Buy in Sao Paolo
Although you can buy them anywhere, Havaianas are substantially cheaper here! I brought them home as gifts for the kids. My son got the requisite football Brazil jersey from the Nike store.
Packing List for Sao Paolo
A bunch of sundresses, my colourful Isabel Marant espadrilles and light cropped sweaters for layering. And sunglasses, always sunglasses.
