How We Do Christmas

Need some inspiration for the holidays? Our lovely Kid & Coe hosts tell us how they spend Christmas in their beautiful homes all over the world. Book a winter trip to one of these festive homes and experience an alternative holiday season this year...

Rupert, host at Le Mas, Dordogne, France

“Spending Christmas in the Dordogne means heading out with a guide and dog to hunt black truffles, browsing local Christmas markets, and indulging in delicious French gastronomy. The history and charm of Le Mas are enhanced with roaring fires and beautiful decorations, including holly and mistletoe from the gardens and surrounding woods.”

Esther, host at The Beatrixpark Residence, Amsterdam

“December in Amsterdam is a magical time. It’s crisp, cold, and dark early — the city is lit with lots of holiday lights, strung in strings high above the streets. Through the many windows of the tall warehouses lining the city’s canals, one sees candles and Christmas trees and it all feels so festive and cosy.

Inside the house, it’s wonderful and warm. We make a fire, drink hot chocolate, and watch films all cuddled up together on the couch. Sometimes the children even camp under our Christmas tree!”

Zoe, host at The Moore Street II Residence, LA

“Los Angeles is not the typical winter wonderland, but the vibes are very merry, even when it’s 72 and sunny. From outdoor movie screenings to festive theme park activations, illuminated botanical gardens and holiday theatrical productions, multiple local craft and food markets plus fully decorated malls (for all manner of gift shopping), the city is definitely switched on. Right near my house you can easily get into the spirit with the charming Marina Del Rey and Venice Canals boat parades, or head to Santa Monica which is known for having its decked-out streets. For real snow, it’s about an hour’s drive to Mt Baldy, where skiing opportunities await, or ditch the down jacket and just head to the beach. Here, you can have it all.”

Gaëlle, host at The Rue Saint Maur Residence, Paris

“Christmas holidays are always a joy with children! We love decorating the tree with all the family, and give the house a festive feel. Our friendly table is perfect for a memorial Christmas dinner.”

Alice, host at The Doyle Gardens Residence, London

“There are few things more important at Christmas than the space to eat together, laugh together and snuggle into a comfortable corner and maybe even take a little post-lunch sofa nap. Our house – our home – is a warm, festive haven in a community of families who love to celebrate the holidays alongside each other. Feast at our huge dining table, walk to the local little pub for a Christmas drink and carols, head to the farmers market for the freshest ingredients for your Christmas meal. Doyle Gardens is a little Christmas oasis in London’s special, winter wonderland.”

Renu, host at The Casa Blanco Residence, Ibiza

“Ibiza in Wintertime is delicious. Escape the cold weather and have lunch on the beach, go hiking or even take a swim.  Daytime gives clear blue skies and at 5pm, you close the curtains, and light the candles and the fireplace.

We love Christmas! Our home will be decorated with handpicked pine branches and Christmas decorations. Our indoor and outdoor dining tables have space for the whole family and our kitchen is the heart of the house, where you can cook your Christmas meal.”

Casey, host at The Northwest Portland Avenue Residence, Bend

“The great thing about Bend is you’re almost assured a white Christmas. Even if it doesn’t snow in town, you can go to Mount Bachelor to ski or sled on Christmas Day.

Bend is also fun and festive throughout the holidays with a bustling downtown, holiday performances at the Tower Theater and winter-themed nights with storytelling and cookie decorating at the High Desert Museum.”
